Rivers Of London – Our next Prayer Camino – April 18th-22nd
“Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone.” Zechariah ch10:1
In January many of us took part in the Camino prayer walk around the city. We were asking God to melt what was frozen and resistant to mission and discipleship. Our feedback zoom at the end of the month was amazing. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read them here.
We are excited how God is leading us to pray following on from this.
London has at least 20 underground rivers and many more tributaries. It is said that in many parts of the city you could be standing within feet of one of its lost rivers and not even realise it. Occasionally when it rains in London the underground rivers fill and rise up and burst through onto our streets.
In 1 Kings 18 :42 Elijah went up Mt Carmel, crouched down and put his head between his knees and prayed for rain. The call is for us to pray for the spiritual rain to fall on our city and for where Gods supernatural presence and mission has been hidden underground to once again rise up and flood our streets.
“Ask for the rain in springtime……”
So sometime during the week of April 18th – 22nd lets be praying the fulfilment of the words in Zechariah 10, and 7.30pm Friday 22nd April (venue tba either in person on zoom) we will gather together to worship and share our God stories, what He has shown us and how He has spoken to us.
Tips for how to do this!
Pick a day and time to do this together (18th is a Bank Holiday btw). It might be that 2 groups or more in your church do this at different days or times of the day to suit.
Research online or through books which is your nearest underground (or overground) river. They all flow into the Thames at some point, but it may be that you want to pick a shorter route nearer to where you live. This book on the rivers really good and gives guided walks.
Plan a route/map for people to follow, maybe with some local landmarks to stop and pray over.
Encourage people to record (writing or on mobiles) what they are hearing from God. These can then be collated and shared together when we meet on the 22nd.
