The latest census reveals that Christians are getting older, with the average age now being 51. Another recent paper revealed that the number of 0-16 year olds attending Sunday services has fallen below 100,000 for the first time. These figures are related to the Church of England, yet it’s possible that other denominations are experiencing similar issues. Stats are revealing that Christianity and attending church is journeying towards being an older person’s thing! Scripture says ‘There is neither Jew nor Greek, young or old…’, we know Jesus is for all ages, so how did we get here? Are there intergenerational issues in our places of worship? How do younger Christians worship and engage with Jesus? Can our places of worship and missional communities be a space where all generations are able to grow in their faith and have a sense of belonging? These are just some questions we aim to unpack and delve into at the My People? event REACH will be hosting this October. My People? will be an informal interactive evening held at Lumberjack Cafe, we hope to have a room full of believers across the generations, with ongoing conversation and challenge about our places of worship and how we can address any intergenerational barriers that may exist. This is a perfect event to bring your teams, youth, young adults, and seniors to. We desire to hear everyone’s voice and to ask Jesus to help us discern what He is saying to His body regarding this issue and to seek His guidance on ensuring the Church is operating and functioning as He desires it to.The event will be held on the evening of the 13th of October, so please save the date, registration will be available soon.
