“Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” 1 Kings 18.37
In November, we went with a group of friends up to the Greenwich Observatory viewpoint to pray for London. The ‘Do It Again’ prayer walk was inspired by the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 18. Elijah was on Mount Carmel, a high place, praying for the restoration of the altars and we prayed at Greenwich Observatory viewpoint for the restoration of the gospel in our city. We broke bread together and prayed against lukewarmness in us and our churches, that we may be fire starters where we are and work and for those at the margins.
We prayed that the Lord would turn the hearts of people back to Him again in London. After the grief and disruption of the pandemic, we sensed this was the time to cry out that God will bring his transformative power again as we aim to restart our churches and communities in London. We finished the prayer walk crossing the Greenwich Foot Tunnel as we prayed against divisions and for more unity and collaboration for churches in London – this is our heart with all the REACH initiatives!

Some reflections from Greenwich

The need for the church to be rooted in Jesus, time for restructuring and more intimacy with God: “This is a season to be deeply rooted in Jesus and fruitfulness will come. 2020 was a year of disruption in discipleship and in general, but that is an opportunity for people to look at their roots with God, to go deeper with him and be re-planted.”

Time of greater vulnerability and therefore, the Holy Spirit has more freedom to work and heal. Changes bring blessings. “The Lord is bringing beauty and light out of chaos.”

Sense of many people feeling ‘stuck’ and all of the Trinity positioning to help us to push through

Need for repentance in this season and the importance of the cross and atonement on that. “There is healing through the cross.”

Season of being scattering in mission as we’re at home, but that it’s also unique opportunity for the church to share Jesus’ light in the darkness in the everyday life – Isaiah 9.2.

Sense of faith and hope rising in children and young people.
